The heart of the city square is its fountain, and the fountain needed a proper keeper. The seated statue that used to sit there has given way to Anubis the Guardian: the jackal-headed god stands in mid-stride, his was-sceptre planted in front of him and an ankh in his lowered hand.
The statue is built with the same engine that draws our characters — a 3D figure turned into pixels — and at the same doubled pixel density. That is what lets us show the fine work on his face: the long ears, the eye lined in gold, the striped headdress and the broad collar on his chest.
A pedestal worthy of a god
- Polished granite steps rise from the water to his feet.
- A cascade spills from the base into the square basin.
- Four lotus torches burn at the corners and light up the water at dusk.
- A lapis plaque with gold letters carries his name: ANUBIS.
You can walk all the way around the fountain. When your character steps behind the statue, it turns see-through so that you never lose sight of yourself.
